Bikes are Sexy

At the airport headed to Dulles for a few days so I decided to start researching some bikes.
Started with some of the recommendations, from friends, on facebook. I must say bikes are sexy ;)

Getting Back Into It

Okay - I'm back!!

Decided my first marathon was just not enough. Basically, it's time to start training harder. I think I've managed to convince my sister to run a marathon with me in the fall.

This time around I'm going to focus on cross training including a mix of long distances, sprint workouts, introduce a little yoga and lastly biking.

I have a nice hybrid bike but I'm in the market for a new road bike. Research this week, test bikes next weekend and decide on purchase :).

What's Next?

Hey Everyone - blog posts have slowed down for the past couple of weeks.

Still coming off the high of running the marathon. Trying to figure what to do next.

In the meantime I'll get back to running this week.

Marathon Pics

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a link with some photos on my marathon run.

Check them out here.

I look like I was suffering just a bit. We'll get it next time. I'm planning on running Boston again next year and also running in my 2nd marathon this fall.

In the meantime, I'll be taking a couple of weeks off to fully recover.

Highlight from Marathon Monday

5K - The first 5K is an easy down hill run. Do not go out to strong.

10K - This was the true test. This is where the aches and pains start to set in and I had to decide how bad I wanted to finish. I decided to cut back my pace and made the decision my first marathon was about finishing.

Half Marathon - The Girls of Wellesley College – you are truly a special group. The sound of your roar is my new favorite sound and takes place of “swish” (the perfect basketball shot).

The Newton Hills – I am proud to say I ran most of the hills except to grab water and the stick to quickly work out a muscle cramp. By running I mean not walking :).

Boston – There is no greater feeling in the world then crossing into Boston / Brookline. So many familiar faces screaming your name and cheering you on, friends running with you, offerings of beer. I loved every minute.

Boylston – This truly is a remarkable left hand turn. Seeing the people and the finish line is a spiritual experience, reminded me in many ways of skydiving. I was completely focused at this moment.

In the end Marathon Monday was about Boston Partners in Education. See the aches and pains will go away and I may even forget the feeling of crossing the finish line but we are helping to provide these children with opportunities that will forever change their lives.

Thank you for the experience of a lifetime.

Reflection on Goals

I’ve been trying to determine what to write for my first post after the marathon.

I guess we should start at the beginning.

Goals

Fundraising
Goal = $10K
Results = $4.5K

Time
Goal = 4:00:00
Results = 5:00:52

I failed to accomplish these goals and Michael Jordan failed to make his first high school varsity basketball team. It is the fight within you that defines your success and we will fight back to tell another story.

Training
Training for a marathon has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It takes a level of commitment beyond any athletic event I have ever competed in.

Support
Thank you for all your support. I’ve received hundreds of messages over the past six months and each one helped me cross the finish line.

Thank you for donating to Boston Partners in Education, a truly remarkable organization that is making a profound impact on Boston Public School students.

Marathon Monday
This was my first road race ever.

Yes, I decided to start with a marathon, with the Boston Marathon. Maybe I'll run a 5K or 10K in a couple of weeks just for fun. I can still always say that my first road race started in Hopkinton and ended five hours later on Boylston Street.

I bet not many runners can say that.

For those that say why start with a marthon? Simply put, it's a state of mind. Either you get it or you don't.

You Can Always Give More

Tomorrow I will give me best!!

Thank You

From the bottom of my heart thank you for caring, thank you for supporting and thank you for returning each day to follow my progress.

Today will be spent reflecting and gathering all the motivation on why I first decided to train for the Boston Marathon. I will utilize these thoughts and many more as I charge up heartbreak hill.

It truly has been an eye opening experience and now I will forever be a runner. I will thirst for the road on those early morning and late nights. I will continue to dream and search for new ways to help others succeed.

Remember above all my training was to support Boston Partners in Education and together, as strangers, we touched the lives of so many young Boston Public school students. For tomorrow they are the true champions of our cause.

Good Luck to all you Marathoners. I hope we all can take the sweetest left turn in Sports onto Boylston Street and down the home stretch.

Be safe; run with your heart and never look back.

Keep Running!!
